Gary’s blog

Hello everyone.

I hope you had a great Easter break. Thank-you to everyone who came along to our pop-up stall outside the Shop last month. It was a great success and, from what I could see, everyone enjoyed tasting the wines, cheeses, pate, and pizza!

I was honoured to represent the Shop to finally accept our South-West Surrey Covid Hero’s certificate from Jeremy Hunt in March. We were awarded this last year but due to the pandemic it was only possible to hold the reception a few weeks ago. (See March 2021 news item below)

We are always keen to keep improving things in the Shop and we’re currently working on producing a short survey to find out what we do well and, more importantly, where we could improve. Look out for it dropping through your letter box soon. We’d really appreciate your responses.

It’s May and that must mean it’s asparagus time! The first harvest from Secretts is in the Shop already – why not treat yourself? Goes well with delicious Ouse Valley Hollandaise sauce.

I hope you’re all coming to the fete on May 7th. The Shop will be running a stall and we’re trying something different from our usual ‘Wine or Water?’ game – see you there!

With best wishes from Gary and all the staff, volunteers, and Shop Committee members

The Shop team of staff and volunteers and the Management Committee are delighted to announce that Jeremy Hunt MP, in conjunction with Tindle Newspapers, has awarded the Shop a South West Surrey Heroes Award.

Whilst this has not been “officially” announced on Jeremy’s website, we are now able to share this very happy news with you all and we couldn’t be more pleased and proud. We are so very grateful to everyone involved in the Shop’s continued efforts to support our community during this pandemic.

This is a new Community Heroes scheme, which acknowledges and shines a spotlight on those people going above and beyond to help others during these challenging times. The scheme celebrates those individuals who go that “extra mile” whether that be supporting their neighbours or individuals through the Covid-19 pandemic, fundraising or helping the community. Eight other organisations join us in winning the award this year.

So in addition to celebrating our 10th birthday at the beginning of February AND having completed our 3000th order for collection, we are happy to add this award to our list of achievements.

We are as proud as punch and as always, THANK YOU, for your on going support and encouragement throughout.
