Gary’s blog

Hello Everyone.

Now that the weather is starting to change, we’re turning attention to all things autumnal. We have vegetables, soups, pastas, cider, squashes, apples, and pears in the Shop. Perfect for those chillier evenings.

Charlie’s Smoked Salmon Pate has arrived! Scottish smoked salmon from the Western Highlands mixed with crème fraiche and soft cheese from their local dairy, dill and parsley, lemon juice and grated zest and finished off with a twist of pepper and a dollop of horseradish. You know how good the smoked trout pate is so go on, give it a try!

We’ve had lots of entries for our Village Art Competition. However, we’ve extended the deadline to the middle of October so if you haven’t yet submitted your village scenes masterpieces, you have a little longer to do so. Links to the full terms and conditions are here.

Halloween is just around the corner and as usual we are stocked up with spooky treats to celebrate this time.

Although I hate to mention it this early, Christmas isn’t too far away either. We’re hoping to be able to hold our famous Christmas Fayre again and this year we’ve penciled in Saturday 13th November, so please keep this date free in your diaries.

Our wine of the month for October is a San Vigilio Merlot. This is a smooth medium bodied Merlot, with typical soft, plummy fruit with a hint of spice. A wonderfully good value red with bright fruit and easy supple tannins. Sanvigilio Merlot is produced in the hilly areas of the Vallagarina valleys in Venezie.

With best wishes from Gary and all the staff, volunteers and Shop Committee members

The Shop team of staff and volunteers and the Management Committee are delighted to announce that Jeremy Hunt MP, in conjunction with Tindle Newspapers, has awarded the Shop a South West Surrey Heroes Award.

Whilst this has not been “officially” announced on Jeremy’s website, we are now able to share this very happy news with you all and we couldn’t be more pleased and proud. We are so very grateful to everyone involved in the Shop’s continued efforts to support our community during this pandemic.

This is a new Community Heroes scheme, which acknowledges and shines a spotlight on those people going above and beyond to help others during these challenging times. The scheme celebrates those individuals who go that “extra mile” whether that be supporting their neighbours or individuals through the Covid-19 pandemic, fundraising or helping the community. Eight other organisations join us in winning the award this year.

So in addition to celebrating our 10th birthday at the beginning of February AND having completed our 3000th order for collection, we are happy to add this award to our list of achievements.

We are as proud as punch and as always, THANK YOU, for your on going support and encouragement throughout.

We are very proud of the charity support we provide…

    • We’ve supported Macmillan thanks to a customer who has been busy making bright and cheerful face masks. You can buy them at the shop front door if you’ve forgotten yours. And yes, we really like you to wear one and please be patient as we can only have two people in the shop at a time.

  • And last, but by no means least, we support local charities too. Arthouse Unlimited is another pool of talented people in our community and supplies us with cheeky cards, handmade soaps and handmade chocolates.
