April blog

Hello everyone and Happy Easter!

“We’re Working Out of Sight!” You might have seen this notice on the A3 roadworks at Wisley and won-dered what was happening. The same might be true for our Post Office. Just because there’s no visible changes yet, it doesn’t mean we aren’t working hard behind the scenes. So what’s happening?

Following acceptance of our application late December, a Post Office (PO) team has visited (again!) and we now have a schedule of works they need to complete to update the facilities. This involves several steps including a compulsory asbestos survey, exchanging the current ‘fortress’ for a modern counter, changing the alarm configuration, and altering power supplies. We are also using this as an opportunity to make some small changes to the layout of the sales space in the Shop and generally bright-en it up a little – you should see some alterations taking place in April/May. Alongside, negotiations continue with another PO team to finalise the business contract. To be ready, we have started on the recruitment of an additional team member for the Shop and Post Office and aim to complete this in the next few weeks. There will then be a period of commissioning and training before we can welcome you to our new Post Office. I’ll continue to provide updates as progress takes place. We are very aware that it has taken a long time to get this far and thank you for your patience.

In the Shop we have been refreshing our wine offering and have a new white, red, and sparkling offering:

White:Il Traliccio Trebbiano, 2023 – ‘A fresh and bright white with citrus and green apple characters and crisp acidity’

Red: Il Traliccio Sangiovese, 2023 – ‘Bright, fruity aromas and appealing cherry and damson characters on the palate. This is light and easy drink-ing with soft tannis and a juicy finish’

Prosecco: Italia Prosecco Spumante Brut, Prosecco DOC – ‘Citrus and green apple aromas, with hints of stone fruit. The palate has more delicate citrus and grapey notes with zesty acidity and a soft and appealing finish’

With Best Wishes from Gary and all the staff, volunteers, and Shop Committee members.

Post Office Update

“We’re delighted to announce that a new Post Office service is coming to Dunsfold Village Shop

Following the closure of the Post Office in August 2023 – see statement from The Shop Committee – The Shop applied to the Post Office to re-open a Post Office counter service.

We have now had our application approved in principle and so have moved into a detailed planning stage as we work though our precise options as to how to operate the new counter service.

This is an exciting opportunity to for The Shop to offer once again a service that many in the community have benefitted from previously.

Further information on how we might proceed can be obtained from The Shop.”

NEWSFLASH: “The earliest we will be able to start the new service is about three months”
