Staff and Volunteers

Our staff are assisted by volunteers who give up their time on a weekly basis and without whom The Shop would not function. Many of our volunteers have been with us since the beginning! We mustn’t forget the hard work of the volunteers who sit on the committee of the Shop representing our many shareholders.

Feedback from our customers is always welcome, especially if you let us know what we can do to make our Shop even more effective! Here are our contact details.

Meet the Team

Manager: Gary Halls

Gary is the Shop’s manager and has been with us since the end of April 2019. He joins us following a long career in IT. Gary has lived locally with his family for over 25 years. He likes that the Shop is at the centre of the community and enjoys meeting the customers and shareholders. He is gradually putting names to faces!

Gail Barata
Gail joined us in May 2023. Many of you will already know Gail as she has lived and worked in the village as a carer for a number of years before starting with us. Gail describes herself as fun and caring, and says she enjoys music and partying! Her favourite thing about the Shop is meeting and helping our customers.

Matt Barley
Matt is our shop assistant. He hopes to work in hospitality and with his charming customer service it is easy to see why. Matt also does the paper round but you need to be up early to spot him! His favourite thing about the Shop is helping the community. Matt also spends time volunteering at the Cranleigh Arts Centre on a Saturday.

Diana Compton

Diana Compton joined us at the Shop in May 2019. She was born and brought up in the village, and has recently returned to our beautiful village. We are lucky to have her as she knows so many of the customers already! Diana likes the Shop’s commitment to supporting local suppliers. She’s also a keen tennis player. You can find her most Friday evenings playing at the local tennis club.

Barbara Elliott
Those of you who are Dunsfold residents know that in this area you can’t go far without bumping into one of the Elliotts. So, it is only right that we have Barbara Elliott in the Shop. Barbara joined us in 2015 having worked for a clothing retailer and adds lots of retail knowledge to our staff team, whilst also helping out with her grandmother duties, her role as Verger and singing in the church choir.

The Dunsfold Village Shop would not exist without the efforts of so many volunteers. We are always looking for new people to join our happy team. Volunteers keep the running costs of our shop, and our prices, as low as possible. It’s also a great way to meet people if you are new to the village or just want to stay in touch with village life.

All offers of help are welcome. There are a great variety of jobs to do. Here are some of them:

• Serving on the till
• Stocking shelves
• Making sandwiches
• Inputting information to the shop’s database for stock control
• Delivering papers
• Helping with promotions and publicity.
• Serving teas and coffee

Training and support are always provided.

So if you think you can spare some time, even an hour, to help us in any way, please get in touch with us.
