September 2017

This year seems to be going by very fast. Summer is nearly over but I am ever optimistic that we will have a few warm evenings in September when the children will be able to play outside after school. It is lovely to see all the children of the village when they have persuaded their parents to drop in to get an ice cream, and having a small patch of the common mown outside the Shop, has seen many people enjoying a coffee or an ice cream and a catch up with their friends and neighbours. A picture postcard view of a village!

At the Shop, we have had a great time with our summer of tastings. Customers enjoyed having the experts at Taurus Wines come and give us their wisdom. It also went down very well when I took a bottle home with me, to enjoy on one of the few hot evenings we had in August.

But my personal favourite was the Caroline’s Dairy tasting. I think their Passion Fruit ice cream (£5 for a large tub) is the best ice cream I have ever tasted. I had a couple of friends over for dinner and served it up with some Tuesley raspberries and I think they now think I am a culinary goddess!

This month, we will be putting out a few samples for everyone to taste. So, keep an eye out for some bakery goodies to coincide with the launch of the Hungry Guest order form, which will be available here soon and in the Shop.

I would also like to remind you all that although we are coming to the end of the BBQ season, we can order in any Rawlings meat directly to the Shop. Please let us know of any special orders by Monday (for a Tuesday delivery) or Wednesday (for Thursday delivery). We will do all the ordering for you and it will be delivered right to Dunsfold. Everything from pork pies to steaks, or a rack of lamb. Good quality meat by loving local.

Finally, we are on the look-out for new volunteers to join our great sandwich team. If you are able to spare an hour a week to make sandwiches, please come and speak to me at the Shop. Full training will be given. We’re building quite a reputation for our sandwiches locally!
