June 2017

I like to think I am good at listening to my customers, so hopefully this month, I can now prove that I am! I was asked about frozen ready meals at last year’s AGM as, through no fault of our own, we had to stop stocking Cook’s products. We found Ginger’s Kitchen, a frozen food supplier from Horsham. I love their meals especially the mac and cheese (£4.20). It has oats and curly kale! But I was asked at the AGM for more of a range. We have found another local supplier – Jane Cookman – who brings a real touch of home cooking. Jane is a local mum setting up in her own kitchen. Her ready meals are just as you would hope a home cooked meal to be, filling and delicious and perfect for the occasions where you need to give yourself the night off from cooking. One happy customer told me that she thought Jane’s food was of restaurant quality!

I was also asked for more Rosé now the weather is ‘trying’ to warm up. So, Taurus has helped us select the Minuty (£13.99) and a False Bay Rose´ (£8.10) made from Cinsault and Mourvèdre grapes, great chilled on a summer’s evening.

Also in preparation for the summer, we will be keeping an area of the common freshly mown for our tea and coffee tables, ready for you to sit an enjoy a fresh bean to cup cappuccino (£1.80) with a delicious croissant (£1.00) or pastry, for a taste of continental summer!

As for myself this month, the Shop has really helped me out. Anyone who has children in the first few years of school will know that every weekend is another party. It gets very expensive what with presents and cards. Added to this, there is always one party that gets forgotten about until the last minute, so I have stocked up on cards from the Shop. I let my children choose and with a great range of children’s cards for both boys and girls we even managed to get a card with a ‘6’ badge on, and at 6 years old, a badge is very important. The basic card range starts at £1.40 with the luxurious handmade cards costing a little extra. But every card is individual. The range of wrapping paper has also helped me out on several occasions. I am even thinking of getting a second basket to display all the various types we have!

Finally, we will be having our AGM on Wednesday 7th June, as long as Mrs May doesn’t plan any more interruptions to our schedule! Everyone is welcome and please come if you want to know what great things we have accomplished this year and what we have planned for the future.

See you soon, Gemma x
