July 2019

Hello Everyone.

It’s July and the asparagus season is already behind us. We are currently selling salad leaves which are grown up the road by Secretts. And we aim to have a range of local veg and summer berries such as strawberries and raspberries for you throughout July and August.

We may have had a soggy start to summer but that hasn’t stopped us from thinking about rosé wine. We continue with optimism around our weather in July where we will have an affordable brand new rosé from France. More to follow on this!

Last month, we stopped handing out single use plastic bags. Thank you for your support. This month we will be introducing new hot drink cups that are industrially compostable. And we have more exciting news. The Shop has registered to become a Plastic Free Champion with Surfers Against Sewage. We hope you will support us in helping achieve their (and our) goal of freeing where we live from single use plastic.

Our lovely volunteers are crucial to the Shop. They perform many different important tasks such as working on the till, stocking the shelves and making our delicious sandwiches. If you have a couple of hours a week to spare, want to meet new people and have fun, all whilst giving back to the community, please contact me. Full training will be given.

So, here’s hoping for a warmer and drier summer. We’re stocking up on ice creams, cold drinks and BBQ meat from Rawlings of Cranleigh (one of our ‘love local’ suppliers) in anticipation!

With best wishes,
Gary
