Last month, we said goodbye to Gemma. She leaves the Shop in a great place as we welcome our new manager Gary Halls. Gary and his family live in Durfold Wood and have been a local family since 1991. Gary started at the Shop at the end of April and is fast picking up the reins and importantly, meeting our customers, shareholders and suppliers. We would also like to say a big thank you to Doreen who has retired after many years of working at the Shop. She has been a much loved member of the team. Sunday morning just won’t be Sunday morning without Doreen.
As part of our 2019 plans, we are getting serious about single use plastic and are now phasing out our plastic bags. We would like our customers to bring their own bags to the Shop. During May, we will offer you a re-useable plastic bag if you forget your own. But from 1 June, we will introduce our own Dunsfold Village Shop paper carrier bag with a charge of 15p. It is a good quality bag and can be re-used. It can easily carry a couple of bottles of May’s Wine of the Month – Pinot Grigio Principato 2017!
We’ve also been polishing up our fruit and vegetable range. Our goal is to provide you with an excellent core range of British fruit and veg with (almost) zero packaging. We are now topping our range up with a vegetable or fruit of the month, from a local supplier. We think that having local suppliers provides you with tastier food! Talking of which……
We are starting a shop Recipe of the Month, produced by our very own foodie volunteer, Sharon Westhead. The recipe is available as a handout in the Shop (as well as in the Parish Mag when space permits). It has been especially created using only ingredients from the Shop. No need to go elsewhere! It includes a supper suggestion and a recipe for an orange cake that all go with our Wine of the Month.
With best wishes, the staff and volunteers at the Shop!
