April 2019

Spring is a time for new beginnings and a good clear out! With this in mind I would like to say a big Thank You to everyone who has sent me their well wishes for my new job. I am a bit sad to be leaving the Shop, as I feel it is a big part of my life. But whoever takes over will do an amazing job as they will be supported by a great committee, experienced staff and a strong team of volunteers.

The Shop will still continue to grow. We are also looking at how we can improve our environmental impact. Like many businesses, we are trying to limit disposable items such as plastic carrier bags or single use hot drink cups. Our hot drink cups are going to be recyclable and we are working with suppliers to ensure that where possible the packaging is reduced or can be recycled.

We will be bringing in paper carrier bags over the next few months which the Shop will charge for. But we really encourage you to remember to bring in your own reusable bag. It’s always easy to think you only need a pint of milk and then end up buying half the Shop! If this happens, we will have second hand bags for you.

As a Shop, we are passionate about ‘Love Local’. We work with some incredible local suppliers. It means that your milk hasn’t travelled halfway round the UK before its ends up in your coffee. The money you spend stays in the local community and by buying your eggs, milk and bread locally it ensures that when we get hit by two inches of snow and the whole country grinds to a halt, the Shop will still be here serving you with the essentials.

As well as all the basics, we also have some speciality treats for you this Easter such as dairy and gluten free Easter eggs for those who need something special for dietary reasons. Or if you know someone who just needs a bit of special bling, then check out our strawberry Bellini buttermilk eggs. So much choice! But get in quick as I am slowly working my way through the dairy milk eggs. There is just something about them that makes them taste better than normal chocolate!

Happy Easter, see you soon
