June 2019

Hello everyone.

My name is Gary Halls and I recently took over from Gemma as the new manager. I have spent the last few weeks learning the ropes and quickly realised I have a hard act to follow! I have been amazed at the community spirit in the village and I’ve enjoyed meeting all our friendly customers. It’s taking me a while to put names to all the faces so please accept my apologies in advance if I have to ask you a few times.

In the Shop, we are continuing to explore ways of reducing our impact on the environment. This month, we are introducing a new carrier bag, soon to be followed by new, compostable cups for hot drinks. Of course, you’re more than welcome to either bring your own re-usable cup for us to fill (we have some for sale in the Shop) or use one of our china mugs and enjoy your drink outside in the sunshine.

We have recently expanded our range of delicious freshly prepared sandwiches and are interested in your feedback on them. So, when you buy your next sandwich please let a member of staff know what you think of it and whether there are any other fillings you’d like to see us provide.

We continue to support our local suppliers. Last month, we started selling fantastic asparagus from Hallgate Farm near Petworth – our customers tell us that it’s really tasty. In June, we will have another seasonal offering for you from a local provider.

Our first Recipe of the Month has been a success. Some of us were lucky to have a taste of the Orange and Almond Cake that Sharon brought into the Shop. This month, it is a ‘Layered Garden Salad’ which will go well with our Wine of the Month, False Bay Rosé at 10% off.

With best wishes, Gary, the staff and volunteers at the Shop!
