“You many now be aware that our postmistress, Debbie, is retiring and so the current Dunsfold Post Office arragements will close for business on 21st August at 12.00. You will have seen the notice from the PO on The Shop door confirming the situation and detailing the local alternatives at Chiddingfold and Alfold.

We are sad to see the end of Debbie’s tireless service over the years and many of our customers have expressed concern over losing this valuable facility.

Please be assured that as soon as The Shop became aware of this situation, we started exploring with the Post Office Ltd how we might continue this service. Since the contract ends with Debbie’s retirement, we are required to start an application process from the beginning. There are many hoops to jump through and if successful the resulting service will be different from what has been in place at The Shop, but similar to that in Chiddingfold. This is due to the formats on offer from the Post Office, not the choice of The Shop.

The early stages of application are underway and Post Office representatives will be on site in early September to assess the suitability, viability and changes needed for this replacement service.

The application process is likely to take many weeks and we will eandeavour to keep the village up to speed as it progresses. In the meantime, The Shop will be able to offer a limited “cash back” service and will also sell postage stamp books. We all hope we can restore a fuller service in the village in the not-to-distant future.
